Three Reasons to Stop Being a People Pleaser

Image
By:  Ivan Cavric It took me years to acknowledge that I was a People Pleaser.  I am shifting away from that pattern of behavior and find great relief and satisfaction in the change.  Here I am, an independent, successful woman with a mind of my own.  How could I be a People Pleaser?  Another term to describe this pattern is compliance, and that says more to me regarding my actions.  I would consistently avoid conflict, ignore what I didn't agree with, and do lots of good deeds which would boost my worth.  I was mostly nice, except for times of exploded emotion in an attempt to deal with conflict.  I did not speak my mind even though I knew what I thought.  What I didn't know so well was what I felt, what my needs were and how to express them. The moment I discovered I was a People Pleaser was on my birthday last year.  A close friend and my husband helped me to celebrate the day.  After a leisurely brunch, I said to them, 'What woul...

Don't Forget To Smile

Image
By:  Ivan Cavric I like to think that I have learned a lot of things from living my life. It seems my years have been filled with a whole lot of good things with a few really hard things in between. I have had the privilege of knowing a lot of really great people and I've enjoyed countless memories with each of them. I have been happily married for quite a few years and I've been blessed with several children. I feel pretty good today, but not every day seems to go this well. Some days life is hard, the people I love the most are annoying, and all I want to do is hide myself in a closet and cry. It is on those days that I remember the advice that my mother often gave me growing up. When I was having a bad day she would say, 'Honey, whatever happens today, don't forget to smile. Nothing is as bad as it seems.' I've found that piece o f advice helpful on countless occasions as I've grown. I remember in elementary school feeling like my life had ended because m...

Like A Fine Wine, Instinct Develops With Age

Image
By:  Ivan Cavric In your twenties, going with your gut instinct had you dirty-dancing with your boss, drunk dialing your ex and cutting your own fringe. Turns out, like a fine wine, your instincts get better with age. Sometimes it's easy to act on impulse. Imagine you're crossing the road and a car swerves towards you.  You're not going to question the "Run!" urge, are you? But in everyday life when we're trying to make a decision, it's  all too easy for your gut instinct to be drowned out by dithering. Instinct is a powerful thing but often we don't trust it - we feel we have to have a sound explanation for out beliefs, so our instinct  argue with our sensible side. However that feeling in your bones could be just the tool you need to help you make your mind up. A lot of it is about recognising familiar or comparable situations and your instinct is more reliable as you get older, because  it's based on more experience so from which dress to wear, ...

2022 Is Already Setting Up To Fail

Image
By:  Ivan Cavric It’s only a couple of weeks into the New Year and all those goals and resolutions you wanted for yourself are already slipping away. One of two things is happening: Either you simply never got started, or you’re running out of steam. Not getting started is common. Even with all the great enthusiasm and excitement we had about the year, the diversion of the holidays and then just trying to get back into our normal routines didn’t allow us to incorporate our new goals into our old schedules. The goals we initially set now seem too difficult to know where to start. Simply put, we are busy and distracted by the overall tasks of our lives. Don’t worry. There is always “tomorrow” or next year. The other common element to resolution failure is burn out. It is comically predictable, but have you ever noticed the level of activity the first week of January? Go to any gym and you will see it packed. In fact, January 1st and 2nd are two of the busiest days in gym attend...
